Food Riot

For some reason I’m digging potatoes. Not literally. My artist’s hands are too delicate to wield a shovel. I’m digging, as in like, liking potatoes. And to add to that now, I’m starting to dig smoked haddock too. Well, restarting, actually. I have always liked smoked haddock. This recipe’s origins is lie in snoek from Hout Bay near Cape Town. Reporting back on yesterday’s Lamb Curry recipe.

It was good. Damn, damn good. Epic.

Only one problem: I should have cooked more. Don’t get me wrong, I did enough for three adults.  The fact is, I should have done enough for two adults and big, fat, greedy eating machine, AKA me.

No doubt a purist or two will see several acts of wanton sacrilege in curry terms, but you know what? I don’t care. There’s too much up-arsishness about food these days.  There is in fact no right and no wrong unless what you’ve cooked tastes terrible. Or if its a baking thing where erring from the path of the righteous recipe can leave you with a biscuit instead of a nice, fluffy cake.

As is always the case, I popped down to Sainsbury’s to buy the missing ingredient (passata) for tonight’s intended supper (Spahetti Bolognese) and came back burdened with yes, passata, as well as some lamb steaks, some garam masala, fresh corriander, cumin seeds and ground cumin, some ready-made garlic naans and a tin of ready made  chickpea dahl.

So some sort of Lamb Curry is actually what we’ll be eating tonight. Read more…
