Sunday Roast…

March House Farm single suckled topside. Roast potatoes. Steamed carrots. Peas. Green beans. Gravy.

My intention is to smear the whole piece of beef with a mixture of wholegrain mustard, coarse-ground black pepper and stud with fresh rosemary. Try to persuade me otherwise if you have a better idea…

Yes, today, the day this blog was born, I strolled from my house down through the autumnal Queens Park as the sun dodged between the racing clouds, to the primary school, where every Sunday they have a splendid farmers market.  The place was full, as usual, with a crop of well healed locals, yummy mummies and (I would guess) delectable daddies, weekend alternative types and their children.

I refuse to shop for food with any preconception of what I might end up cooking.  I like my market experiences to be as spontaneous as possible. Plans bore me almost as much as recipes, which I refuse to follow unless its pastries or baking – which I very seldom get involved with.

As it happened, I found for the price of £10 and some pennies a fine piece of rolled topside, recalled vagely that I was already the proud owner of some potatoes (Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Vivaldis), some frozen peas (which to be frank are always bloody good (don’t come to me with your “oh but you must buy them fresh and spend an entire day shelling them” rubbish).  I also remembered that I have some green beans and some fine, sturdy carrots. They will be steamed.

You’ll find that if I do post a recipe here, my quanties given are not going to be cupfulls, teaspoons or grams. No way. I use a much simplers system All my measures are “some”. Add some salt. Get some chicken breasts. Stir in some wine.  On rare occasions I will confuse everyone with the use of “a little”. The main point is that only stupid people will add too much salt. Only dull-witted and careless people will add too much of anything. We all know roughly what goes with what and I can tell you for sure, precise amounts really don’t matter. Relax!

So… I have yet to cook this meal because its for tonight, but fret not. I will tell you what I cooked last night, in another post later today once I’ve figured out a bit about WordPress.

Oh, and by the way…. Mushroom Paté. Tasted and bought yesterday at Borough Market. Yum-utterly-yum!
